Yancy to Yancy

Archive for December, 2009

I can’t believe this is the last day of this year’s (we’ll hope for more next year) 12 Days of Christmas blog with stories, inspiration and deals at yancynotnancy.com. I hope you and yours are having a blessed Christmas season. I’ve had a fun week of being a part of an outreach my church does at the mall “Free gift wrap” for everyone. A great way to show love to those who might never walk into church doors. I got to lead worship for our senior high students at church. Yesterday worked on some production items for my Christmas concert I’m doing next weekend filled with you guessed it: Christmas music. Last night I attended my first Christmas party. Thankfully I have a few more on the calendar for next week so I’m pumped. It’s always fun to gather with family and friends over some grub and just talk. It’s so exciting thinking that we are less than two weeks away till the official day of Christmas.

The Day 12 special is going to last all weekend long. (‘Cause I’m generous like that.) So, through Monday 12-14-09 order the “Rock-N-Happy CD Combo” and save $5. This combo is 2 CD’s: “Rock-N-Happy Heart” and “Rock-N-Happy Dance Party Remix” normally $20 but with the coupon code: day12five you will save $5.00 and get both CD’s for only $15. It’s a great gift for any elementary or preteen kid on your shopping list or to just round out your Yancy music collection. The combo is listed under the remix CD HERE Hurry, this offer will expire at the end of Monday 12-14-09.

The last song on the record is called “The Greatest Gift”. I heard the song a couple years ago on a CD called “Jingle Jam”. (Which is a great, fun Christmas CD by the way. Download it at http://www.amberskyrecords.com ) Anyways, I heard the song and really fell in love with it. I immediately had the song on my list of songs I wanted to record. I’m excited that there are radio stations around the country playing the song this Christmas. If you would call your local Christian radio station requesting the song that would be great, just saying :-) “The Greatest Gift” tells the story of Jesus’ birth and the ultimate Gospel message of John 3:15 “For God so loved the word that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” That is the greatest gift we could ever receive. That is the story of Christmas. Don’t forget to share that story with those that need to hear it this season and always.

Today while I’m cleaning my house and wrapping some presents I’m gonna pop in one of my favorite movies “Miracle on 34th Street” the new version from the 90’s. I love the little girl in it and it’s one of the first times I saw the actor Dylan McDermott. I’ve always loved this Christmas flick and try to pop it in every year. I hope your Christmas is merry and bright. Talk to you soon.

New Videos

December 11th, 2009

We added some new videos to the media page here at yancynotnancy.com. You’ll find two acoustic performances of the songs “Merry Christmas, Happy Christmas” and “The Greatest Gift”. Plus you can see Yancy’s interview from earlier this week on The Harvest Show. Be sure to check them out.

On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me……Ah, tis the season for shopping and baking. Christmas parties at work, school, church. Outreaches to the community, Salvation Army bell ringers, Angel trees, coat and canned food drives. I led worship last night for the senior high students at my church. My dad was speaking about the angels in the Christmas story and how they were the “messengers”. He challenged the students at the end that we have been told this amazing story of Christmas. It’s our job to give that story away to someone else. Today, December 11th, I want to challenge you by asking “Who in your life can you tell this story of Christmas? Who can you give the gift of Jesus to this Christmas season? It’s easy for us to think about right now as we’re in the season but it’s a question we should ask ourselves all year long. We are messengers to tell His story everyday with everyone.

“O Come All Ye Faithful” is definitely the worship anthem of Christmas. More than any other carol we sing this one truly is a song of worship. That’s why I’m sure at church and many events you’ll attend this season you’ll sing the words “O come let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him Christ the Lord”. The song was immediately on my list of songs to record for the CD. I’ve always enjoyed singing and leading others in this song because at the end of every day, and at the end of our lives all that really matters is if took part in “adoring Christ the Lord” by the things we did and said. The way we treated others…did we make His story glorified? Whatever you’re doing today I hope you’ll take a moment to worship our Savior. He was born as a baby so He could be the sacrifice for our sins. We have hope, peace, joy and love because of what Jesus has done for us. He is Christ the Lord and deserves every ounce of praise we can give.

Thank you so much for reading my blog the past week or so. I hope you’ve enjoyed. We’ve added some new videos on the media page of my site where you can see a couple acoustic performances of Christmas songs and also my interview on The Harvest Show. I hope you’ll take a few moments to watch them.

It’s Day 10….that means there’s only two days left of my 12 days of Christmas…I think I’ll shed a tear right now. I’ve had a fun time sharing with you. Yesterday was a great day, I got to be a part of my church’s outreach to the community. They have a storefront at the mall where they provide free gift wrap. It’s a great way to show love to our community. I got to be one of the gift wrappers which was fun for me since I actually like to gift wrap plus I got to get to know a few people from my church that I didn’t know before.

My Day 10 special is a great one. You’ll want to spread the word to your friends about this one. Save $20 off of any 10 pack of CD’s. That means you get 10 CD’s for only $79 but only today 12-10-09. Use code: day10cdpack at checkout to receive the discount. You can choose any title:

Let’s take a look at “Angels We Have Heard On High”. I’ve grown up singing the song at church…it’s one of the great carols for worship so I know I’ve used the song many times in years past planning worship sets around Christmas for both kids and adults. I had a few arrangement ideas going into this which was stretching out the time in the verse and then I wanted to simplify the chorus which resulted in me writing my own “Gloria” chorus. The song is a mid-tempo acoustic rock song but one thing I loved in the early stages of recording is how easy people could jump in and singalong after just hearing the re-write shortly before. (That’s always a really good thing for a songwriter). Then I decided to use the “in excelsis deo” lyric as a bridge. So it’s kind of like a wedding good luck charm. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue (the blue can be the minor chord used in the verse :-) So, if you haven’t listened already you should. You can listen to the record on the media page of my website just skip ahead to track 8. Happy listening.

Let’s join in with the angels and let our lives sing “Glory to God in the highest….Gloria today.”

Until tomorrow,
YANCY

Wow, it’s day 9. We are already almost a third of the way through December. Time is flying by. Today I’m going to serve with my church at an outreach they do in our community. Free gift wrap at the mall. That’s right they have a booth at the mall where they will provide free gift wrap for anyone’s gifts just as our church’s way of saying “We love you….Merry Christmas”. I’m pumped about being a part of it today and tomorrow (and let’s be honest, I like wrapping presents too.)

I wanted to share with you about the medley of the song on the record. It’s a mix of “Jingle Bells”, “Rocking Around The Christmas Tree”, “Feliz Navidad” and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas”. The medley is all about having fun and I’m hearing that kids are loving it which is awesome. I just picked a few songs that I thought would be fun for this. When Stephen (my producer) and I were working on the medley arrangement there was lots of laughs and musical challenges. There’s several time changes like the intro being in 3/4 moving into 4/4 at the top of “Jingle Bell” and key changes. I was more than pleased when we figured it all out and put it together. “Jingle Bells” is a Christmas song everyone knows. I think it’s one of the first songs kids learn. When I was in Romania a couple years ago they were singing “Jingle Bells” and it was such a joy to sing with those precious orphan girls as they celebrated Christmas.”Rocking Around The Christmas Tree” is a fun song that I’ve done in many Christmas concerts before so it felt like putting on an old pair of jeans especially recording the background vocals. “Feliz Navidad” is a salute to all my latino friends at some wonderful churches I’ve met over the years. I’m not eloquent in spanish at all but it was fun getting to learn and make sure I was pronouncing it. I’ve always been a fan of “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” and thought it was the perfect finish to this medley of songs.

The Day 9 special is an awesome one especially for churches because it includes my singalong DVD’s which are perfect for leading worship for kids or choir performances. It’s simple: Order the Kids Worship Trio (3 Cd’s and 3 DVD’s) and receive the “Have A Fancy Yancy Christmas” CD/DVD Ministry Combo absolutely free. You get a Free CD and a Free DVD ($35.00 value.) Amazing. So at checkout enter the code: day9combo and we’ll automatically send you the Christmas combo. If you pay with google checkout send us a followup email to orders@yancynotnancy.com to let us know that you are using the coupon code. Spread the word to others you know about this exclusive one day special that won’t be repeated.

Another fun thing in case you didn’t hear. I was on the Harvest show on LESEA this week and you can watch the interview and performances of “Merry Christmas, Happy Christmas” and “The Greatest Gift” at http://www.harvest-tv.com just click on the December 7th show.

Many blessings to you and yours this Christmas.

Eight days a week……on the eighth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…..It’s day eight. That’s one week and one day day or one week and the first day of a second week or simply eight days which is what we’ll go with. :-) Thanks for taking the time to read my stories and thoughts and take part in this 12 Days of Christmas event. We’re gonna start with the good stuff for you. As some of you may remember I told you that the Day 7 special will still be good today which was to to receive a FREE “Rock-N-Happy Dance Party REMIX” CD with any “Rock-N-Happy Heart” CD, DVD or Combo purchase. All you have to do is buy a “Rock-N-Happy Heart” CD for instance and you get a Remix CD for free. Use code: day7remix but that’s not all. It’s Day 8 so you also have the option of a FREE Hatch Show Print poster with any “Have A Fancy Yancy Christmas” DVD or Ministry Combo CD/DVD order. Just put in the code: day8poster. Hatch Show Print is a legendary poster show in downtown Nashville. Their unique old letterpress designs are completely original and uniquely them. This poster is a $12.95 value and you get it completely free. :-) It’s super groovy.

“The First Noel” is my favorite Christmas carols. It was immediate on my list of songs that I wanted to do. When you think of all the Christmas CD’s out there most of them don’t have “The First Noel” and I don’t know why. I love the song. It’s simplistic in form but tells the story of Jesus’ birth with a beautiful melody and lyric. For those that don’t know the word “noel” means “Christmas”. I was really pleased with how the song turned out. It has more piano than any other song on the record. Some of you may not realize that I play piano…it’s actually my first instrument and my musical brain thinks on a piano not a guitar. I’m always thrilled when the ebony and ivory makes an appearance on my songs. I hope as you listen you’ll worship Jesus as you sing along “Born is the King of Israel.” Remember the Bible tells us one day every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. I hope you don’t wait for that final day to come before you realize that Jesus is the King of kings and Lord of lords. I hope today you’ll make that choice if you haven’t already. It’s the perfect season to bow down and worship. He’s not just a babe lying in a manger. He lived a sinless life, died on a cross and rose again. He is alive and well in Heaven waiting for you….loving you but it’s your choice to accept Him.

Just as a friendly reminder you only have 13 days left to shop before Christmas. That’s less than 2 weeks my friends. Christmastime is here…happiness and cheer :-) Talk to you more tomorrow.

Love and blessings,
YANCY

Wow, it’s been a crazy but good weekend. I did my first ever Christmas concert performing all the songs from “Have A Fancy Yancy Christmas”. It was a blast and exciting to finally bring the songs to life on the stage not just in the studio. I’ve done a few performances over the six weeks of a couple songs but it was my first time to do “Wonderful Christmastime” and “The Medley” as well as “The First Noel’ which is a personal favorite. So alot of the weekend was finishing all the details, production and rehearsing the tunes. Last night in Columbus, OH we had a blast celebrating the birth of our amazing Savior who was born for us. Thanks to everyone that was at the show. I hope it was a great evening for you and put you full throttle into the Christmas spirit.

Today, I’m in South Bend, Indiana. That’s right, home of Notre Dame but that’s not what I’m here for. I’m at LESEA Broadcasting to be on the Harvest show…spreading more Christmas cheer around. This time through the TV set. :-) As I sit here and look out the window, it’s snowing. That’s right…more snow in my life. It’s just following me the past few days. (Too bad I’m a summer weather kind of gal.) Anyways, I’m thankful for the opportunity to sing and share my music whether that be on a CD, live performance, TV show or the internet. I’m always grateful for the doors that God opens up so that I can share and impact lives with His love.

It’s Day 7 of my 12 Days of Christmas. Quick birthday shout out to my grandmother. Gram is 80 years old today. She’s an awesome, fun, loving and giving lady. I look alot like her and she’s actually how I got the name Yancy. My Dad’s father died when my Dad was only three years old. When my Gram finally remarried my Dad was a senior in high school. That man’s name was Paul Yancy. So ta da…..when I was born my parents decided to name me Yancy as a tribute to him. I laugh when people ask me what the name means thinking that’s how I got the name…it means “Englishman” and technically is a boy’s name. Yancy really is my name. It’s my first name. Named after my step-grandfather. So, that’s the story and I’m sticking to it. I hope my Gram, Ms. Betty Yancy, will have an amazing day filled with love and joy as she rings in year number eighty.

Tomorrow I’ll have more stories behind the songs on the record. But TODAY and just cause I’m feeling generous and it’s my grandmother’s birthday TOMORROW too, you can use code: day7remix to receive a FREE “Rock-N-Happy Dance Party REMIX” CD with any “Rock-N-Happy Heart” CD, DVD or Combo purchase. All you have to do is buy a “Rock-N-Happy Heart” CD for instance and you get a Remix CD for free. Gotta love it. It’s Day 7 of my 12 days of Christmas.

Happy Christmas to you.
YANCY

There is most definitely a chill in the air but it seems there’s an expectancy in the hearts of others. I know I say this alot but I LOVE Christmas…I really do. From the fake snow decorations to the Christmas drinks at Starbucks there’s just so much to celebrate. Obviously, today is Sunday and I hope you are going and/or have already been to a church service somewhere. I am spending the day in Columbus, OH at The Church Next Door (That’s really the name of it! :-) Great people here with great hearts for the community where they live. Blooming and flourishing where they are planted. I am blessed to get to lead them in worship and then have a Christmas concert for the family in the evening. I’m so excited about doing these songs live. It’s going to be a great day.

So today it’s time to talk about my song “Christmastime”. I wrote this song at my house early this year. I had gone through a year or so of changes…moving from a place I lived for most of my life, planning the move but waiting for a house to sell, building a house but my belongings were in storage….it was alot of hurry up and wait. Planning, wishing and waiting. All these changes resulted in time away from my family a couple Christmases ago. Then last year I got the best Christmas gift ever. We had been building a home and all along I had told my builder I wanted in by Christmas. Well, it was December and there was much left to do. The wish was starting to fade with the news of reality but miraculously the week before Christmas it all came together and we were able to move in on December 23rd. It was a dream come true. My builder called it “The Christmas Miracle”. (Seriously we’re talking about occupancy permits, power and water all in the same day!) We moved all day, went to the Amy Grant Christmas concert that night and then it was Christmas eve and Christmas day in our home. The waiting and wishing was over. Definitely a Christmas I won’t soon forget. So I think one day as I was sitting at my piano recounting all that had been sacrificed and also received I started painting the picture of the ideal Christmas setting in my mind. (Verse one of Christmastime) As I got to the chorus the words just rolled off. It’s so easy to get busy with the hustle and bustle, the things to do list, the things we want list, the RSVP for the 10 parties to go to, etc. However that’s not what Christmas is about. I hope that your day will be filled with the love, peace and hope we find in the Christmas story. Don’t forget to spread that hope around. To your family, your community. Never forget the miracle that was born. God’s son sent to us to be the perfect sacrifice so that our sin-severed relationship with God could be restored. Wow, it makes me want to sing just thinking of the awesomeness…..”Glory to God in the highest! Glory to God.” Never forget it’s all about that baby that was born named Jesus who everyday gives us love, peace and hope. Merry Christmas my friends.

Day 6 special is FREE SHIPPING on all orders (shipped to a US address) Today only enter code: day6free to receive your free shipping. Feel free to pass the code around to others that would be interested.

I really appreciate each of you and for taking the time read my thoughts. Stay warm and keep smiling!

Whoa! I woke up this morning, peeked outside and there is snow on the ground and rooftops. I’ll admit it’s not a lot of snow but it is a small amount that’s enough to cover the roofs and at least some of the grass. It’s enough to make this whole 12 Days Of Christmas seem pretty real. Let’s be honest this year has flown by. I mean shouldn’t it still be March 2009 not December 5, 2009? Oh well, with Christmas only 20 days away I hope you’re getting ready and having moments along the way where you can just stop and soak in the season.

Today is my Dad’s birthday. My heart goes out to all the December birthdays out there cause I know it’s a busy time for everyone and sometimes your birthday gets looked over a little bit because of everything else going on. My Dad always reminds us that he has a birthday and a Christmas….(not that we ever forget but he still feels the need to remind of us.) Well, here’s a big “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” not only to my Dad but anybody else with a birthday this month. I hope your special day will be a very blessed and happy day.

For Day 5 of my 12 Days of Christmas you get a pretty good deal. The options are limitless because you save 20% off any and every thing today only in the Yancy store, when you use the code: day5twenty So remember, it’s not too late to do a little shopping for those you love on your Christmas list. From preschool to preteen to adult there’s something for everyone. Be sure to check out the brand new Hatch Show Print Poster that says “Have A Fancy Yancy Christmas” It’s truly an original keepsake.

“Joy To The World” is one of my favorites on the album. It’s kind of acoustic….has some sleigh bells on it…..it’s just light hearted and fun. As I was planning the arrangement of the song I came across that “Joy To The World” was inspired/based on Psalms 98.

1 Sing to the LORD a new song,
for he has done marvelous things;
his right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him.
2 The LORD has made his salvation known
and revealed his righteousness to the nations.

3 He has remembered his love
and his faithfulness to the house of Israel;
all the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.

4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth,
burst into jubilant song with music;

5 make music to the LORD with the harp,
with the harp and the sound of singing,

6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—
shout for joy before the LORD, the King.

7 Let the sea resound, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it.

8 Let the rivers clap their hands,
Let the mountains sing together for joy; 9 let them sing before the LORD,
for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
and the peoples with equity.

I pray you will join in with the creation and the angels and sing along. “Joy to the world, the Lord is come.” Let’s keep shouting that story to the ends of the earth: Jesus was born for you but you have to receive Him for that joy and that celebration to be alive in you.

Happy Saturday and day 5 to you and yours. Whether there is snow on the ground where you live or if you just have to heat up some hot chocolate and pretend it’s winter, don’t forget it’s Christmastime!
