Yancy to Yancy

Over the past four years I’ve worked with an organization called Christ In Youth on both their Believe and SuperStart events. Christ in Youth is based in Joplin, MO so as the news of the tornado that destroyed so much in that city hit I immediately thought of those there I call friends. Sadly, I found out one of those friends had lost their home completely…thankfully all lives were spared including a little baby girl that’s younger than my baby Sparrow. I couldn’t even bring myself to imagine what life without a home and all the comforts of such is like with their precious baby girl so fresh and new still.
A few days ago I spoke with my friend Patrick Snow who directs the SuperStart event to get a personal update on how things are in the city. He mentioned how many people have dropped what they are doing and travelled from afar to come help with the clean up. Many individuals and churches have brought truck loads of supplies which they are grateful. The tornado destroyed in addition to the homes about 1,800 businesses so as Patrick shared even those who did not lose their home are affected because they probably lost their job. Over the next couple months these people will need financial help as they wait for the jobs and businesses to rebuild and reopen. I asked how I could help and he suggested to giving to two churches (that I’m familiar with there) so they can distribute the funds to those that need it not only right now but in the months to come. I’m giving and I thought you would be interested also. Here are two different churches you can give to specifically for the Joplin Relief Efforts:

Another way you can give is http://bigfishtees.com/
A friend of mine works for this t-shirt company. They have printed relief t-shirts where all profits go to Joplin relief. They’ve already raised over $50,000 through these t-shirts so it’s a great way to give a little and be able to wear a reminder to us all of our neighbors and for some friends and family that are needing our help.

Thanks for praying about how you can best help. I know the people there appreciate it!

One of the things I’m looking forward to this year is the Kidmin Conference in Chicago. If you haven’t heard of it before there’s a reason. My First Mother’s Day

May 11th, 2011

This year is proving to be about family. I got things kicked off this year with some events out on the road and then of course my baby was born back on February 25th. This summer my sister is getting married so there’s just all sorts of family fun happening these days.

This past Sunday was Mother’s Day. I sure hope you were kind to your Momma! :-) Obviously it was my first year to get to celebrate being a Mom. I had a great day. I also had many friends wishing me a happy first mother’s day. It was special and definitely a day I’ll cherish in the memory banks for years to come. The day was filled with church, lunch with my Mom and family and then cleaning house. (But I wanted to clean the house so that’s how I spent my time…with a little help from the hubby of course.) Followed by a yummy dinner of mexican food.

Sparrow and I had some pictures taken a couple weeks ago. I thought it would be fun for you all to see how little Sparrow Rocket is growing. He’s 10.5 weeks as we speak. We are very blessed and overwhelmed with love.

I’m working on some projects behind the scenes as we speak. I’ll be hitting the road again officially in June. I look forward to crossing paths with you and hopefully sharing my music live an in person. In the meantime I’ll be hanging with my little boy!

Love to you all.

Summer Fun… CMX 2011

May 10th, 2011

One of the things this summer I’m looking forward to is CMX. The Children’s Ministry Expo. Last year was it’s inaugural year and it was a fun time. (Not to mention I turned 30 there and told my parents I was going to have a baby!) This year will be ever bigger and better…I’m going back and bringing baby Sparrow along with me. Here’s all the official details:

CMX (www.cmxpo.com) has now released the 2011 schedule for the Children’s Ministry Expo in Lexington, KY July 6th and 7th. Wow!

Not only are there 3 tracks – Leadership, Basic and Special Needs
— but the workshop leaders are a virtual Who’s Who of children’s ministry. And of course you see the biggest lineup of resources in kidmin.

New this year!

Kidz Blitz will be conducting a 60 minute FX Live in the exhibit hall highlighting some of the popular features of this family experience.

Jim Wideman is heading up a Kidmin Genius Bar with his Infuse coaches to provide free diagnostics/repairs for whatever is ailing your children’s ministry.

The new Pre Expo hours (Wednesday, July 6th 6p-10p) give you a chance to check out resources and visit Jim’s Genius Bar before the rush.

Five special needs champions lead a track designed to educate and inspire churches who are in the development phase and the progressed stages of special needs related programs.

Roger Fields, this year’s MC, will have some surprises.

Learn from these kidmin specialists: Greg Baird, Dr. Alyssa Barnes, Tina Bryson, Michael Chanley, Jeremy Collins, Coach D, Ken Dovey, Amy Fenton Lee, Roger Fields, Jenny Funderburke, Katie Garvert, Harmony Hensley, Dale Hudson, Tony Kummer, Jim Marshall, Gina McClain, Jolene Philo, Karen Rhodes, Michelle Romain, Justyn Smith, Jim Wideman and Yancy.

Over the past six months Yancy has been collecting names of church leaders that she met at different conferences and events. These names were going into a drawing to win an iPad. Lucky for these awesome pastors and ministry directors the iPad 2 recently released and our little collection of names came to an end. We want to congratulate Trisha Hegemeyer of Lone Star Cowboy Church in Montgomery, TX as our winner. She recently received her iPad 2 from Yancy and was very excited! We are praying for many blessings to her and her ministry there.
