Yancy to Yancy

Archive for March, 2012

This morning Yancy was named About.com’s Best Indie Solo Artist.  Thanks to everyone who voted over the past few weeks.  Here’s the article:

In the beginning, almost 150 male and female artists from all of the genres found within Christian music were nominated for the Best Christian Indie Solo Artist. Five ladies stood head and shoulders above the rest and they were named your finalists. Each brought big talent and even bigger hearts for ministry to the voting table. In the closest race in the Christian Music Awards, voting went down to the wire and the results were so close, it was impossible to predict a final winner. After all of the votes were audited to remove any “gaming” of the system, a winner arose.

All of the unsigned artists in the Best Christian Solo Artist category are your faces to watch for in 2012 and the face/voice that you voted as the Best was Yancy with 45% of the vote!

This talented young woman sings, having released a series of pop/rock projects, a Christmas collection and a project specifically for young children. She also writes songs for other artists and devotional books for worship leaders and musicians. In case that’s not enough, she spent five years as a staff worship leader and she has toured with everyone from 4Him to Nichole Nordeman, Newsboys to Mute Math. Talented, committed and living a life completely dedicated to her ministry, Yancy is making a huge impact on every life she touches. – Read More

Last Words

March 26th, 2012

So this weekend I was thinking about last words. We hear the expression “famous last words” often throughout our lives. From time to time we might even imagine the reality of our fleeting lives and think about the last words we said or would wish to say to our family and those that mean the most to us. I’ve lived enough at this point in my thirty one years to have had some different phases, stages or let’s call them seasons in my short lifetime. Serving God is truly a journey that we’re on. I’ll be honest I’m glad that it is a journey that I don’t know all the details to (that takes alot for a self-proclaimed control freak to admit! :-) Thankfully God reveals to us the steps we need to take for this part of the journey we’re on. I don’t exactly know where I’ll end up when I’m one hundred years old and that’s ok. I’m excited about listening to God’s voice and following Him for the steps and seasons that will lead me to one hundred. I’m trusting Him.

Five years ago I ended a season of my life and my last words on that stage were words that I’m pretty proud were the last words I got to share with that audience. So much of what I get to share with others is through the songs I sing. It was a song by Tim Hughes called “Everything” (It’s awesome. If you don’t know it check it out here http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/everything/id323390198?i=323390215 )

God in my living

There in my breathing

God in my waking

God in my sleeping

God in my resting

There in my working

God in my thinking

God in my speaking

Be my everything

Be my everything

Be my everything

Be my everything

God in my hoping

There in my dreaming

God in my watching

God in my waiting

God in my laughing

There in my weeping

God in my hurting

God in my healing

Be my everything

Be my everything

Be my everything

Be my everything

Christ in me

Christ in me

Christ in me the hope of glory

You are everything

You are everything

You are everything

You are everything

Jesus everything

Jesus everything

Jesus everything

Jesus everything

So fast forward alot of life lived. New seasons that began. New steps, adventures and parts to the journey. It’s time for a chapter to close and something new to open. This time again, I’m humbled and grateful for the last words I got to have. This time by Chris Tomlin and his uber popular song “Our God”:

Our God is greater

Our God is stronger

God You are higher than any other

Our God is healer

Awesome in power our God, our God

If those are to be my famous last words then I’m feeling good about it. I want my life to reflect the greatness of our God and the amazing love that He gives to us. Whatever season you are in and whatever journey you are on make it count. Think about your last words and the impact they can make. So, onward Christian soldiers let’s continue marching on. Our God is greater, stronger and higher than any other!

Wow, it’s been busy around here lately. We celebrated Sparrow’s birthday twice. One party was at home in Tennessee and another in Oklahoma.  There’s been lots of concerts, conferences and meetings lately too. My house is an explosion of suitcases, laundry, toys and mail at the moment. It’s been fun and I’m thankful for the open doors God has sent my way.
