whk (1)One of my favorite things to do is to create resources that churches can use. Seriously, it brings me so much joy to write, dream, and create songs, videos, and more that churches can use to

reach people. It’s one of the most fulfilling and fruitful things that I do. Media is an every day part of a kid’s world, and there are a lot of creative and engaging tools out there that the church can use to help reach kids. Why do churches worship the same way every week? Why only use the same elements in your services? One of the places I turn to when I need creative elements to add to one of my concert events or the student ministry service I serve on a creative team at my church is WorshipHouse Kids and it’s sister site, WorshipHouse Media. Whether you’re looking for a song video with live lyrics or need a countdown, this is the place. There are also many short videos that can take the place of a live drama and help you underline your teaching point and illustrate the theme you’re talking about.  You can use these videos as an intro to your teaching too. I especially love the seasonal content they offer. I’ve used their materials at Easter and Christmas and have some personal favorites like one titled What Is Christmas About. Yes, ’tis the season to start thinking about Christmas!

Aside from being a customer of WorshipHouse, I have been so blessed to partner with WorshipHouse Kids over the past few years as a producer to sell ALL of my song videos (both the live lyric style videos from my albums “Jesus Music Box”, “Rock-N-Happy Heart”, etc., the animated/cartoon style “Little Praise Party” videos, and the worship transition videos of “Connect the Dots” I released this year as a tool for leading worship.) The best part is you can download these videos anytime. 24/7 you can search and preview content, find what fits your need and then download it and have it ready for your next service. I am really grateful to have won their customer choice award the past two years, too, for the most downloaded kids products. Woo hoo! Awards are cool, but thinking of the lives represented watching and singing along to those videos is what will make you want to do a happy dance. I truly love helping equip churches to reach people. I’m so grateful for how WorshipHouse Kids is helping do that very thing. They help me make the videos available to you through their site. If you have never visited their site, I encourage you to check it out. Enter in a keyword you’re going to be talking about or teaching….see what content they have to help you step up your programming and production. I think you’ll like what you find.

In a few weeks I’ll be starting this year’s SuperStart tour. It’s a two-day event for preteen students. I’m happy to say that WorshipHouse Kids is one of my tour sponsors helping make it possible for me to do these events. Please help me say thank you to them for their support by logging on and downloading a video or two or three. It’s important that we put our best foot forward as we share Jesus with kids and families. Using media, video, story, and creative visuals will help you step up your game. It all goes back to lives impacted with the gospel. Jesus said in Matthew 9:37-38, “A large crop is in the fields, but there are only a few workers. Ask the Lord in charge of the harvest to send out workers to bring it in.” There are thousands to be touched with the love of Jesus. We need to go and use all available tools to gather the harvest before us.

PROOF_DO NOT PRINTI’m so excited. Today is the day! Reggie Joiner’s new book Playing for Keeps launches today. Reggie is one of my favorite people and communicators. His passion for families and the church is contagious. So, what is Playing for Keeps all about you ask?

Whether you’re a parent or a leader, you’re making history. The question is, what kind of history are you making with the kids and teenagers who are closest to you? Playing for Keeps is a book about six things every kid needs over time from the parents and leaders who are closest to them.

There are approximately 936 weeks from the time a child is born until he or she graduates high school.

A leader who stays connected to small group of kids for a year will have 52 weeks of influence before those kids move on to the next group.

Parents and leaders have a limited amount of time.

Maybe that’s why Psalm 90:1 says, “Teach us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

By giving parents a jar of 936 marbles or leaders a box of 52 marbles, we want to help parents and leaders number their days. We want them to visualize their week. By counting their weeks, we hope to help them make their week count just a little bit more.

My Favorites

September 12th, 2013

My friends over at WorshipHouseKids asked me to share some of my favorite videos.  I picked a few of my favorites from others and of my own. You can see, preview and download them all here.

Here’s WHY I picked the songs I chose…

MY PICKS OF OTHERS:

1. Happy and You Know It by Amber Sky Records  http://www.worshiphousekids.com/song-tracks/28949/Happy-And-You-Know-It

One of my favorite songs! It’s a super fun one to kick off a service with or do anytime you need a song that is filled with energy. I love it because it demands participation!

2. Let It Be Known by iWorship http://www.worshiphousekids.com/song-tracks/39131/Let-It-Be-Known

I recently discovered this song and fell in love right away. It’s a great praise song. Simple lyrics and melody-you’ll be singing along quickly! A true winner.

3. This Love by Amber Sky Records http://www.worshiphousekids.com/song-tracks/34743/This-Love

The first time I heard this song was in Australia and I immediately knew it would be a great song to do with kids. I love a group of kids shouting that they are in love with Jesus. This song rocks and sings Jesus’ praise…it’s a true winner!

4.  Psalm 100: 1&2 by The Rizers http://www.worshiphousekids.com/song-tracks/31926/Psalm-100-12-Make-A-Joyful-Noise

The Rizers have super fun scripture music. I love this one from the book of Psalms. The fun song rocks and teaches kids about praise as they sing the word of God. Super cool.

5. Trust & Obey by Uncle Charlie http://www.worshiphousekids.com/song-tracks/24015/Trust-And-Obey

I’ve always loved this worship song originally by Hillsong Kids. Teaching kids to worship is huge for me and this song is filled with a great confession: “I will follow You, where You’re leading me.” May that be our prayer each and every day.

MY PICKS OF MY CATALOG:

1. Not Ashamed http://www.worshiphousekids.com/song-tracks/36886/Not-Ashamed

WIth so many voices in our lives telling us to be quiet in our faith I love giving kids an opportunity to stand up, shout and be bold about their faith. I wrote this song for that very reason. The chorus is super easy and the whole room will be rocking out that “I’m not ashamed to say the name of Jesus!” Woo hoo… that’s what I’m talking about!

2. Better Than the Best Thing http://www.worshiphousekids.com/song-tracks/36884/Better-Than-The-Best-Thing

I love finding songs that have simple, easy parts that people can singalong with first try. This praise song has proven to be one of those songs originally by Amber Sky Records. I recorded a version on my latest CD and I love it’s message!

3. I Love You http://www.worshiphousekids.com/song-tracks/22385/I-Love-You

This is a powerful worship song that people catch on to quickly which is a huge win. I love leading this song and watching even the oldest boys in the class join in, lift their hands and sing “I love you” to Jesus. Ah, I get chills just thinking of it.

4. Thank You http://www.worshiphousekids.com/mini-movies/37973/Thank-You

I made a series of transition and segue videos called “Connect the Dots”. This one is one of my favorites. It’s so easy for us to get consumed with our life that we forget to say thank you to the one who gives us all good things. This is a powerful video to help teach that one of our responses in worship times and to show our thanks and gratitude to the Lord.

5. Our God Reigns http://www.worshiphousekids.com/song-tracks/36888/Our-God-Reigns

Kids are the best worshippers out there. Some kids just need to be given the opportunity to worship. This is a very simple chorus that’s repetitive. The bridge features a version of the Lord’s prayer.

We are excited to announce that Yancy will continue writing the kids worship column for K! Magazine through 2014. This year Yancy has answered various questions about kids worship including how to develop a worship team, technology recommendations and more. “There is not a lot of information and training resources out there for those leading kids in worship. I’ve had a blast helping others learn and grow and succeed in the area of kids worship. I’m exciting to continue the “Ask Yancy” column for K! this next year. I hope many more churches and kids around the world will benefit from what I have to share.” says Yancy.
