Last Words

March 26th, 2012

So this weekend I was thinking about last words. We hear the expression “famous last words” often throughout our lives. From time to time we might even imagine the reality of our fleeting lives and think about the last words we said or would wish to say to our family and those that mean the most to us. I’ve lived enough at this point in my thirty one years to have had some different phases, stages or let’s call them seasons in my short lifetime. Serving God is truly a journey that we’re on. I’ll be honest I’m glad that it is a journey that I don’t know all the details to (that takes alot for a self-proclaimed control freak to admit! :-) Thankfully God reveals to us the steps we need to take for this part of the journey we’re on. I don’t exactly know where I’ll end up when I’m one hundred years old and that’s ok. I’m excited about listening to God’s voice and following Him for the steps and seasons that will lead me to one hundred. I’m trusting Him.

Five years ago I ended a season of my life and my last words on that stage were words that I’m pretty proud were the last words I got to share with that audience. So much of what I get to share with others is through the songs I sing. It was a song by Tim Hughes called “Everything” (It’s awesome. If you don’t know it check it out here http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/everything/id323390198?i=323390215 )

God in my living

There in my breathing

God in my waking

God in my sleeping

God in my resting

There in my working

God in my thinking

God in my speaking

Be my everything

Be my everything

Be my everything

Be my everything

God in my hoping

There in my dreaming

God in my watching

God in my waiting

God in my laughing

There in my weeping

God in my hurting

God in my healing

Be my everything

Be my everything

Be my everything

Be my everything

Christ in me

Christ in me

Christ in me the hope of glory

You are everything

You are everything

You are everything

You are everything

Jesus everything

Jesus everything

Jesus everything

Jesus everything

So fast forward alot of life lived. New seasons that began. New steps, adventures and parts to the journey. It’s time for a chapter to close and something new to open. This time again, I’m humbled and grateful for the last words I got to have. This time by Chris Tomlin and his uber popular song “Our God”:

Our God is greater

Our God is stronger

God You are higher than any other

Our God is healer

Awesome in power our God, our God

If those are to be my famous last words then I’m feeling good about it. I want my life to reflect the greatness of our God and the amazing love that He gives to us. Whatever season you are in and whatever journey you are on make it count. Think about your last words and the impact they can make. So, onward Christian soldiers let’s continue marching on. Our God is greater, stronger and higher than any other!

It’s The Month Of Love

February 6th, 2012

I have to admit I think Valentine’s is the cutest holiday we celebrate. What’s not to love about pink, red and white and loads of hearts? Adorable right. At least for a girl it is :-) Thinking about February being the month of love and Valentine’s just around the bend I thought I would give you a list of my songs that have to do with love. Of course most this list is about loving God but hey, what a great opportunity to teach your kids and family about the most important gift of love we’ve ever received and how we can respond to that love. Then of course, there’s that second greatest commandment “Loving others as our self”. Well, don’t worry I have a new song about that too. So, as you plan out your worship sets to sing at church the next couple weeks or if you’re looking for some new tunes to freshen up the ipod playlist for the family car or even devotional time at home here’s a few songs to help you out this month. I hope you enjoy!

Oh, The Impact Of A Song

January 24th, 2012

It never ceases to amaze me how music impacts us. At the core it seems so simple. Nothing complicated, no studying or tests are involved. Music truly touches us at our core. I love that those little melodies and lyric phrases soak into our core and stick with us. And I do mean stick to us. Just yesterday, I was sitting at my church after a meeting and randomly an old Sunday School song was playing in my head and I started singing it. Now, this is a song I’ve known for over twenty years. It’s not a song I’ve sang in years and yet in the middle of my Monday afternoon it’s melody and it’s lyric came back to remind me of God’s truth. I know what you’re thinking….sure, Yancy but you’re really into music so it’s easy for you to remember old songs from long ago. Oh c’mon, you’re in the same boat. My husband who isn’t a musician and is no professional music database can start rapping inappropriate raps that he learned as a kid, at school, over twenty years ago. Music takes hold of us and plants itself deep within. That’s why I feel so incredibly blessed to make music not like the latter but that is filled with life, truth and promise that kids can learn now, to help them in their walk with Christ…but the cool part is the songs and truths will stay with them way into their adulthood. Ah, goosebumps!

So, as you probably (hopefully) know I’ve released a new “Little Praise Party” album named “Happy Day Everyday” for preschoolers. Just yesterday I was at a friend’s house and something came up about the CD/DVD they only got a week or so ago and immediately the child started singing one of the songs “Bye, bye, bye to fear. I don’t have to be afraid. Bye, goodbye to fear. God is always with me.” (Deuteronomy 31:6) Inside my heart was jumping because yay…the song is sinking in. The truth is sinking in. The promise that we can hold to and cling to whenever the storms of life come our way to remind us “Do not fear. God is with us” was sinking in. The Bible has promised God’s word will not return void. (Isaiah 55:11) The seed that’s planted in that child through that song is God’s word and it’s not going anywhere. Yippee! Hallelujah! Our God is so awesome and cool and the fact that I get to teach kids His word and what He’s done for us through these songs and through these videos is AMAZING!

Yesterday, I also read a message on Facebook from a preteen who was at an event I led worship at last weekend. I signed something to her and put Romans 8:31. She went home looked it up and then wrote me to say. “That’s cool. I remember that being in one of the songs we sang.” Yep, the songs can help her remember God’s word! Oh, the impact of a song + the Jesus factor is pretty wonderful I do believe.
